Greetings! I'm Shawna, she/her.
East Bay Meditation Center is near and dear to my heart because of how they recognize, elevate and celebrate our communities and tirelessly affirm our worth and dignity. I contribute monthly because they've made it easy and I've noticed that when I do offer dana on a regular monthly basis, I give more, which feels really good. So I hope you'll join me and consider becoming a Friend of EBMC.

Efforts like the COVID Relied fund help EBMC live into our values of social justice and gift economics.

Thank you to the donors who made this possible, the the staff and volunteers who held down the admin and financial tasks, and, of course, our beautiful Sangha for applying, spreading the word and supporting.

Hi I’m Melvin and I’m a Friend of EBMC and have been since the very beginning of the program. So, monthly giver and receiver, actually, of a trust in enoughness. That there enough to go around and that my energy is going towards creating healing in the world. So, I wish you lots of healing via this practice of giving and receiving.
We're so excited to introduce you to EBMC's newest We're so excited to introduce you to EBMC's newest Staff Member, Jena Woodfork, who is joining our Programs & Events Team as an Event Coordinator!

Jena (she / her) is an avid meditator and certified yoga teacher from Sacramento, CA. She is passionate about teaching holistic healing modalities to marginalized and disenfranchised communities as a means to overcoming related stress, depression and anxiety. She has participated in several Vipassana meditation retreats around the world, including Thailand and India.

In 2013 while a student at UC Berkeley, she found a home at EBMC where she attended weekly POC Sangha sessions and occasionally participated in weekend workshops. It was at EBMC that she found a safe, serene and inclusive community focusing on healing which allowed her to grow in her spiritual development and love for meditation.

Since obtaining her Bachelor's degree in Social Welfare and African American Studies in 2017, she has increasingly become an activist working in movements to eradicate social injustice, gender and racial inequality, homelessness and animal abuse.

She enjoys creating acrylic artwork, making short videos, volunteering with her local homeless community and watching informative documentaries. Traveling the world is one of her greatest pleasures.

Help us welcome Jena to the EBMC Staff Family!

Living My Practice Wholeheartedly: Whiteness, Race Living My Practice Wholeheartedly:
Whiteness, Race and the Bodhisattva Vow

A BENEFIT FOR EAST BAY MEDITATION CENTER

While this year of pandemic has been disruptive and challenging in many ways, it has also created an opening, a space for greater awareness and urgency around issues of racial harm.

As white people, especially those of us with class privilege, this can be both upsetting and overwhelming. Our compassionate nature registers the suffering, yet our confusion makes it difficult to know what to do.

In this workshop, we offer brief talks, group discussion, reflection and time for Q&A to explore these states of distress, and examine how to move from the overwhelm, confusion, guilt, uncertainty and isolation to the joyful practice of compassion, fueled by the energy of the Bodhisattva vow.

We hope you'll join us and support the important work of East Bay Meditation Center though this benefit workshop!
