The EBMC offers periodic workshops and classes on miscellaneous themes that are consistent with our Mission, including meditation, social justice, diversity, etc. These workshop classes are often taught by visiting teachers. Some recent examples include Yoga and Writing, Tai Chi, Meditation and Social Justice Leadership.
In keeping with our commitment to Diversity, some Workshops and Classes may be reserved for practitioners from specific under-represented communities, e.g., People of Color, LGBTQ communities, youth, young adults.
Participation in Workshops and Classes is offered for no registration fee, in order to make them available to the widest possible audience. Instead, practitioners are offered an opportunity at the end of each class to make a voluntary offering, to the level of their ability, to support the teacher and the center. This is known as the practice of “dana,” or joyful generosity. (See About EBMC.)
Founded in a celebration of diversity, the East Bay Meditation Center welcomes everyone seeking to end suffering and cultivate happiness. Our mission is to foster liberation, personal and interpersonal healing, social action, and inclusive community building. We offer mindfulness practices and teachings on wisdom and compassion from Buddhist and other spiritual traditions. Rooted in our commitment to diversity, we operate with transparent democratic governance, generosity-based economics, and environmental sustainability.
