SUMMARY:Surviving & Thriving at the End of Capitalism: Embodying Regenerative Economies
DESCRIPTION:with Dawn Haney\, Lisa Moore and René Rivera \nAs global capitalism grinds toward a transition\, alternatives are cropping up: land trusts\, cooperatives\, wealth transfer and reparations\, everyday anti-capitalism\, and gift economics. What are these regenerative economies? How do they offer an immediate antidote to capitalism? How can mindfulness practices help us start to embody these economic ideas in our own lives and communities right now? \nIn this daylong\, you will learn to apply Buddhist concepts of interdependence and interbeing\, developing an embodied sense of how to enact and grow these economies. This workshop includes guided meditation\, interactive activities\, a panel on regenerative economies\, and discussions. \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”). SUMMARY:Potions for the Poisons: Heart Medicine for Our Times
DESCRIPTION:with Melvin Escobar \nIn the Buddhist teachings\, the Three Poisons (greed\, hatred\, and delusion) are the primary causes of suffering. Arguably\, these three poisons are more widespread than ever in our world. In this 3-week class series\, we will explore these unwholesome roots of our unease and the potions\, or antidotes\, to these poisons. Through stationary and gentle moving meditation\, interactive exercise\, talks\, and recommendations for home practice\, we will use contemporary psychological frameworks\, informed by an understanding of structural oppression\, to transform the poisons and live a life of true happiness. \nSpace is limited and registration is requested. \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. SUMMARY:Introduction to Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation
DESCRIPTION:with Kazu Haga\, Sierra Pickett and Chris Moore-Backman \nKingian Nonviolence grew out of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and is a transformative philosophy dealing with the transformation of conflict. Many forms of political resistance only deal with “fixing issues\,” while ignoring the need to heal relationships. However many healing modalities do not address the systems of injustice that perpetuate trauma. Through interactive activities\, the workshop will dispel many common myths of “nonviolence\,” and explore the interconnection of personal healing and political resistance\, and how to build a powerful movement that honors the dignity of ALL life. This workshop is a partnership with East Point Peace Academy. \nSpace is limited and registration is requested. \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. Further\, we may not realize how our conditioning stops us from joining with other white people to change the system and ourselves. \nThis class focuses on the skills\, support and understanding needed to continue to disrupt racism within ourselves in our communities. \nSpace is limited and registration is requested. \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events.
However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”). SUMMARY:Power\, Presence and Healing: Black Women Honoring Our Wholeness
DESCRIPTION:A Retreat for Self-Identified Black Women of the African Diaspora\nwith Amana Brembry Johnson and Arisika Razak \nI think our notions of what counts as radical have changed. Self-care . . . healing . . . attention to the body and the spiritual dimension – all of this is . . . a part of radical social justice struggles. \nAngela Davis \nBlack Women have frequently resisted oppressive social norms by coming together to cultivate healing\, empowerment\, and mutual support. Join our daylong retreat of mindfulness practices\, storytelling\, ritual movement and wisdom teachings from Buddhist and other spiritual traditions as we affirm our bodies\, share our stories\, and claim our birthright as sacred beings who are loved and cherished. Participants are invited to bring an item to place on the community altar that will be built during the day. \nSpace is limited and registration is requested. \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”).
