SUMMARY:Liberation in Action: Cultivating the Four Noble Truths
DESCRIPTION:Sunday May 22\, 2016 – 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm \nwith Sean Feit \nThe Buddhist traditions offer a vast range of teachings\, from ethical guidelines for daily life and relationships to instructions for meditation and descriptions of the deepest truths of reality. In this 4-part class we’ll study a selection of core Buddhist texts from both early (Pāli Canon) and later (Mahāyāna) schools\, focusing on the foundational teaching of the Four Noble Truths. We will explore the classical implications of the teaching\, which is said to encapsulate the entire Dharma\, and its relevance to the complex suffering of our own lives and the world now. \nOpen to all\, but oriented toward Committed Practitioners. The class focuses on study of texts and concepts from the Theravāda and Mahāyāna Buddhist traditions and assumes some familiarity with basic Buddhist teachings and meditation instructions. \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. Registration will open soon for this event. \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”). SUMMARY:Spiritual Friendship: Traveling the Path Together
DESCRIPTION:with Mushim \nThe Buddha said that spiritual friendship is the whole of the spiritual life. Do you have spiritual friends? How can we be better spiritual friends to others? True spiritual friendship is amazing and transformative. We support one another\, with kindness and bold compassion\, to stay on the path\, to strengthen our spiritual commitments\, and to align with our highest values and goals. We can laugh and cry together because there is safety\, trust\, and non-fear. Join us for a day of exploration\, mindfulness meditation\, discussion\, and Dharma talks. Instruction provided for beginners in meditation.\n\nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. Registration will open soon for this event. \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”). Please donate generously\, in proportion to your ability: \n * Either online (you will be offered an opportunity during the online registration process)\n * Or at the event\, in the two baskets at EBMC\, one for the Center\, the second for the Teacher \nThank you for your generosity. EBMC will be only be sustained through our collective generosity. \nFragrance-free: In order to protect the health of community members with environmental illness\, please do not wear fragranced products (including “natural” fragrances) or clothes laundered in fragranced products to EBMC. \nEBMC is wheelchair accessible.

SUMMARY:Trauma and Transformation
DESCRIPTION:Open to self identified people of color \nwith Arisika Razak \nIf we cannot be happy in spite of our difficulties\, what good is our spiritual practice?\n-Maha Ghosananda \nMemory is the selection of images; some elusive\, others printed indelibly on the brain. . . . But truth changes color depending on the light. And tomorrow can be clearer than today.\n-Kasi Lemon\, from the film Eve’s Bayou \nOur experiences of grief and trauma may be invitations to deepen our self-awareness\, healing\, compassion and transformation. Using Buddhist teachings\, guided meditation\, movement\, writing\, embodied exercises and trauma studies\, we will explore the gifts and challenges found in these difficult and provocative experiences. \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. Registration will open soon for this event. \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. However\, EBMC is not independently funded.
