SUMMARY:Kapwa Flow for Alphabet Sangha (Movement Class)
DESCRIPTION:Led by Jessy Zapanta \nKapwa means “togetherness” in Tagalog. Kapwa Flow invites you to embody what collective liberation might feel like\, healing through self-care and energetic connection. Jessy will begin circle with a check in to support access needs and individual requests\, followed by a grounding opening meditation. You will then be guided through a customized flow of trauma-releasing movements\, self-focused bodywork\, and stationary practices based on your personal capacity. Since class is dependent on the combined needs of participants\, no two sessions are the same. All movements can be done sitting\, lying down\, or standing up. Tuesday practice centers queer and trans experiences\, all bodies and minds. Mindful allies are welcome. \nDrop In Format. No Registration Required. Please Dress Comfortably.

SUMMARY:A Lineage of Liberation: Intro to the history of Buddhism
DESCRIPTION:with Sean Feit Oakes\, PhD \nThe moment the Buddha’s first student heard his teaching and was liberated\, it’s said that the “Wheel of Dharma” began to turn. Since that moment\, generations of devoted practitioners have spread the Dharma of liberation around the world. In this series\, we’ll explore a range of Buddhist cultures\, and trace the development of important ideas across Asia and beyond to Buddhism’s current prominence as a many-faceted global religion. We’ll learn simple meditations\, chants\, and prayers from different traditions\, exploring the vast diversity of Buddhist practice. The class is for beginners and those wanting more historical grounding in their practice. \nSpace is limited and registration is requested.  \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”). Please donate generously\, in proportion to your ability: \n* Either online (you will be offered an opportunity during the online registration process to donate to EBMC; the teachers will not receive any part of this online donation).\n* Or at the event\, in the two baskets at EBMC\, one for the Center\, the second for the Teacher. \nThank you for your generosity. EBMC will be only be sustained through our collective generosity. \nFragrance-free: In order to protect the health of community members with environmental illness\, please do not wear fragranced products (including “natural” fragrances) or clothes laundered in fragranced products to EBMC. \nEBMC is wheelchair accessible.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation
DESCRIPTION:with Kazu Haga\, Sierra Pickett and Julia Rose Golomb \nKingian Nonviolence grew out of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and is a transformative philosophy dealing with the transformation of conflict. Many forms of political resistance only deal with “fixing issues\,” while ignoring the need to heal relationships. However many healing modalities do not address the systems of injustice that perpetuate trauma. Through interactive activities\, the workshop will dispel many common myths of “nonviolence\,” and explore the interconnection of personal healing and political resistance\, and how to build a powerful movement that honors the dignity of ALL life. This workshop is a partnership with East Point Peace Academy. \nSpace is limited and registration is requested.  \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. SUMMARY:"Healing Resistance: A Radically Different Response to Harm\," Book Release Celebration for Kazu Haga
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the official book release event for Kazu Haga’s first book\, “Healing Resistance: A Radically Different Response to Harm\,” published by Parallax Press! \nLight refreshments will be served. Please feel free to bring a snack or drinks to share! \nCopies of the book will be available to purchase at the event for a donation\, or online directly from the publisher – https://www.parallax.org/product/healing-resistance/ \n\n“Kazu Haga’s deep\, nuanced\, and principled commitment to nonviolence has challenged and inspired me and many others who’ve had the privilege of encountering his work.”\n—Michelle Alexander\, author of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness \n“Kazu Haga reminds us of the power of nonviolence\, building on the work of Gandhi and King and informed by his own life and insight in a way that touches us all today. Haga teaches us that true belonging … is a challenging process that takes constant work and training from the internal to the interpersonal to the institutional. But that the work is worth the reward of building Beloved Community. We owe a debt of gratitude to Haga for his work and words and have in this book a manual for loving and for living nonviolence that will guide and inspire generations to come.”\n—john a. powell\, director of the Othering and Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley and author of Racing to Justice: Transforming Our Concept of Self and Other to Build an Inclusive Society \nActivists and social change agents\, restorative justice practitioners\, faith leaders\, and anybody engaged in social progress and shifting society will find this mindful approach to nonviolent action indispensable. \n“Kazu Haga is a masterful teacher connecting our internal and external experiences: of intending\, of doing\, and of being—living together with care and justice.”\n— Larry Yang\, core teacher at the East Bay Meditation Center\, member of the Spirit Rock Teachers Council\, and author of Awakening Together: The Spiritual Practice of Inclusivity and Community \n“Kazu Haga has written an accessible\, thorough\, and deeply personal introduction to nonviolence as a power for personal and social transformation. He reflects upon common myths about nonviolent resistance\, offers practical insight from his own experiences\, and challenges readers to consider a radical\, healing approach to confronting injustice. An inspiring read.”\n—Erica Chenoweth\, Berthold Beitz Professor in Human Rights and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School and author of Civil Resistance: What Everyone Needs to Know \nNonviolence was once considered the highest form of activism and radical change. And yet its basic truth\, its restorative power\, has been forgotten. In Healing Resistance\, leading Kingian Nonviolence trainer Kazu Haga blazingly reclaims the energy and assertiveness of nonviolent practice (utilized by the Women’s March and Black Lives Matter)\, and proves that nonviolent civil resistance remains the most effective strategy for social change in hostile times. With over 20 years of experience practicing and teaching Kingian Nonviolence\, Haga offers us the practical approach to societal conflict first begun by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement\, which has been developed into a fully workable\, step-by-step training and deeply transformative philosophy. Kingian Nonviolence takes on the timely issues of endless protest and activist burnout\, and presents tried-and-tested strategies for staying resilient\, creating equity\, and restoring peace.
