SUMMARY:ONLINE: The 4 Noble Truths as a Restorative Process: Manifesting Agents of Change for People of Color
DESCRIPTION:with Rev. Liên Shutt – Online Retreat For People of Color  \nDoes “The 4 Noble Truths” just seems like another list to memorize? \nWhat are “truths”? How did we learn them? How do familial\, cultural\, and/or institutional systems promote\, validate\, and/or collude? Join Rev. Liên Shutt to see how my reframed “Engaged 4 Noble Truths” can reflect our multi-dimensional\, lived experiences as people of color. Meditative\, reflective\, and interactive exercises will be used throughout the day to support us to see how these seemingly passive “truths” to be more active and meaningful. We’ll expand their traditional framing to see how they also support an engaged practice\, enlivening us with agency. \nRegistered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom with their EventBrite confirmation. \n \n

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Pandemic Precepts: Buddhist Ethics during COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:online class series with Mushim Ikeda \nASL interpretation provided by Aaron Brace and Brooke Fulton \nWednesdays\, April 29th\, May 6th\, 13th and 20th 7-8:30PM PST / PDT \nWhat does toilet paper hoarding have to do with Buddhist ethics? Based in EBMC’s mindfulness-based\, diversity-equity-inclusion and social justice-centered mission\, this four-class series offers a path to reflect on the bases of ethical discernment and action. Buddhist life\, for both laypersons and monastics\, is rooted in Five Precepts\, or ethical guidelines that are paths of deep contemplative investigation resulting in behaviors and actions aligned toward non-harm\, in the service of all life. The compassionate realization of our “interbeing\,” and the sometimes complex relationship of intent to impact are woven into this current events-based study of the Precepts.

SUMMARY:Rooted and Resilient: An Online Retreat with Spring Washam to Support the East Bay Meditation Center
DESCRIPTION:Rooted and Resilient: An Online Retreat with Spring Washam to Support the East Bay Meditation Center\nFriday\, May 15 5PM – 7PM PST | Saturday\, May 16 10AM – 5PM PST \nHow do we remain hopeful in the midst of so much fear and despair? With the shifts that are coming our way each day\, what new world can we imagine\, what future can be born out of our current circumstances? How can we deepen the roots of resilience in ourselves and our communities to meet these times? \nJoin beloved meditation teacher\, author and visionary leader Spring Washam online as we explore how to meet the challenges of this current moment with an open heart\, and find wisdom\, strength and courage to face the unknown. \nIn this special weekend retreat we will learn how to apply the teachings of compassion to the moment-to-moment reality of the “new normal” of our everyday lives\, while developing a fierceness that will help us move into the future that is unfolding in ways we could never have imagined only a couple of months ago. \nWhether right now you need to focus on cultivating supportive practices for yourself\, or develop skills to engage more broadly with what is unfolding in our world\, the dharma teachings and mindfulness practices we will explore together can support you as we respond to this unprecedented time. \nThe program begins Friday\, May 15 with a short program in the evening and includes a full day of offerings on Saturday\, May 16\, including dharma teachings on love\, hope and resilience; periods of meditation and mindful movement; and small group discussions. \nThis retreat is open to all and is well-suited for people who are new to meditation practice as well as experienced practitioners. \nYoga and Movement offered by Elika Aird of Blissful Bodies and Master John Ellis of Five Realms Meditative Movement.  \nThis offering is a fundraiser for the East Bay Meditation Center and we ask that you give as generously as you are able to support our programs\, for the benefit of all. \nZoom links will be sent out to all registered guests 24 hours before the event. Please check your spam folder on that date\, as Eventbrite messages may end up there!
