SUMMARY:Practicing with Sexual Energy: Presence\, Precepts and Power
DESCRIPTION:with Rev. Keiryu Liên Shutt and Rev. Daigan Gaither \nWhat is it to stay upright in the midst of sexual energy? How do we not turn away from our experience or ourselves in the present moment? We will explore our intention to “not misuse sexuality” and how it both informs our practice and sexual choices within the context of our diverse lived experiences. How do we relate to desire in healthy and respectful ways\, both for ourselves and with others? Are we using our energies or are they using us? \nJoin us as we explore what it means to practice while maintaining a healthy relationship to our sexual lives. Please bring your lunch to eat during our mid-day break. \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. Click here or on the link below to register: \nhttp://eastbaymeditation.org/ebmcreg/?event=apr16energy \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. SUMMARY:Liberation in Action: Cultivating the Four Noble Truths
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 10\, 2-4pm\nSunday\, May 22\, 2-4pm\nEach class requires separate registration. \nwith Sean Feit \nThe Buddhist traditions offer a vast range of teachings\, from ethical guidelines for daily life and relationships to instructions for meditation and descriptions of the deepest truths of reality. In this 4-part class we’ll study a selection of core Buddhist texts from both early (Pāli Canon) and later (Mahāyāna) schools\, focusing on the foundational teaching of the Four Noble Truths. We will explore the classical implications of the teaching\, which is said to encapsulate the entire Dharma\, and its relevance to the complex suffering of our own lives and the world now. \nOpen to all\, but oriented toward Committed Practitioners. The class focuses on study of texts and concepts from the Theravāda and Mahāyāna Buddhist traditions and assumes some familiarity with basic Buddhist teachings and meditation instructions. \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. SUMMARY:Damn! Now What?
DESCRIPTION:with Larry Yang \nWhat happens when we don’t awaken in this lifetime? We often talk of awakening\, but we rarely turn our attention to the places where we get caught; when we are not inspired\, when we are not living up to the vision of ourselves. How do we practice our awareness and kindness to the uncooked\, imperfect aspects of our lives? \nWhen we turn kindness to our challenges\, we open our hearts to all of life. Awakening and not-awakening are the same experience because they are in this same lifetime. When we awaken to the possibility of non-awakening\, we do not need to attach to either. \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. SUMMARY:Intimate Relationship on the Path of Awakening
DESCRIPTION:with Carol Cano \n“Love is as close as we get to the Beloved without really trying. It manifests many of the qualities of the sacred. It is characterized by surrender\, intoxication\, devotion\, selfless generosity\, joy\, uninhibited affection\, deep connecting silences and the mercy that goes beyond simple understanding.” \n“Embracing the Beloved: Relationship as a Path of Awakening” by Stephen and Ondrea Levine \nThis half-day retreat will shed light on the heart’s longing in intimate relationship while walking on the path of awakening. We explore relationship as a spiritual practice and what it means to cultivate the wisdom of the heart. We will investigate clearing our minds and opening our heart to embrace the healing that may want to take place as we unfold into our true nature. Together\, let us discover the beauty of cultivating intimacy with others as well as ourselves. \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. SUMMARY:Love is the Answer: A daylong on Metta practice
DESCRIPTION:with Spring Washam \nThe Buddha once said\, “Searching all directions with one’s awareness\, one finds no one dearer than oneself.” Our greatest and most challenging task on the spiritual path is to learn to love and accept ourselves. When we can be alone\, we can be with others without using them as a means of escape”\n– bell hooks \nIs there something foundationally missing in your life if you are not in an intimate relationship? How can we cultivate equanimity\, and self-love\, when we are single – not by our own choice?
