SUMMARY:ONLINE: Pandemic Precepts: Buddhist Ethics during Covid-19
DESCRIPTION:An Online Class Series with Mushim Ikeda\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesdays April 28th\, May 5th\, 12th & 19th 2021 \n6:30 – 8:30PM PST (Time Zone Converter) \nASL Interpretation and Closed Captioning Provided \nPart of EBMC’s Core Buddhist Teachings – 5 month Curriculum \nOne year ago\, people in the United States were hoarding toilet paper and steaks. Today we’re dealing with volatile ethical issues such as to mask or not to mask? – “Cut in line” to vaccinate or not? Rooted in EBMC’s mindfulness-based\, diversity-equity-inclusion and social justice-centered mission\, this four-class series offers a path to reflect on current ethical discernment and action. Buddhist life\, for both laypersons and monastics\, is rooted in Five Precepts\, guidelines that are paths of deep contemplative investigation resulting in behaviors and actions aligned toward non-harm\, in the service of all life. The compassionate realization of our “interbeing\,” and the sometimes complex relationship of intent to impact are woven into this “Living Dharma” approach to the Precepts. \n \nRegistered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom with their EventBrite confirmation email.

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Honoring Our Asian American Buddhist Ancestors
DESCRIPTION:An Online Gathering with Rev. Duncan Williams  \nSaturday\, May 15th 2:00 – 4:00PM PST (Time Zone Converter) \nClosed Captioning Provided.  \nThe March 16th Atlanta shootings claimed the lives of eight people\, six of them women of Asian descent\, including 63-year-old Buddhist\, Yong Ae Yue. Yue’s tragic death follows upon months of unrelenting racist taunts and violence against Asian Americans\, including the senseless assault of 84-year-old Vicha Ratanapakdee in San Francisco. His daughter\, who herself had been accosted twice in the past year and told to go back to Asia because “Asians caused the coronavirus\,” described her father as a devout Thai Buddhist; his funeral was held at Wat Buddhanusorn in Fremont\, California. Our temples have also come under attack. Six Vietnamese American temples in Orange County\, California were vandalized in a single month; an outdoor Buddhist statue was spray-painted with the word “Jesus” at Huong Tich Temple. More recently\, the Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple in Los Angeles was damaged when windows were smashed\, lanterns broken\, and the building set on fire. \nRev. Duncan Williams will speak about the National Buddhist Memorial Ceremony for Asian American Ancestors scheduled on May 4\, 2021 – Forty-nine days after the Atlanta shootings. Forty-nine days after death marks an important transition for the bereaved in many Buddhist traditions. \n \nRegistered participants will receive a Zoom link with their EventBrite confirmation email.  \n  \n

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Pride\, Resiliency & Solidarity: Celebrating the LGBTQIA + Community for Pride 2021
DESCRIPTION:Pride\, Resiliency & Solidarity: An online Daylong Celebrating the LGBTQIA + Community for Pride 2021 \nWith Fresh Lev White\, Ramón Honea\, D Han and Amber Field \nSaturday June 26th 2021 10AM – 4:30PM PST \nTime Zone Converter – Closed Captioning Provided \nPlease join us for our second EBMC QT2SPOC and all self-identified LGBTQIA+ (lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, trans\, “gender-expansive\, queer\, questioning\, intersex\, asexual+) Pride Day Long! \nIn this life\, there is suffering – that’s at the core of the Buddha’s teachings. As members of queer communities\, we see\, and experience\, this truth on a regular basis. And at the same time\, there lives in us an inclination to reduce suffering\, for ourselves and others\, through mutual support\, radical connection\, nurturing\, and healing. \nWe warmly invite all self-identified LGBTQIA+ siblings\, (no prior meditation practice necessary\,) for an opportunity to engage in an exploration of pride\, resiliency\, and solidarity. What do these things mean to each of us? What are their shadow sides? How do we live these things individually\, and in community? Can we experience joy in the center of it all? – We’ll dig into these questions through silence/inner practice\, community shares\, music\, mindful movement\, and dancing with guidance and sharing from our QTPOC teaching team. \nAll levels of practitioners are welcome! \nIn preparation for the daylong\, please consider preparing your lunch in advance. You might also want to have a beverage\, snacks\, and perhaps a pen and notebook nearby. \n \nRegistered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom with their EventBrite confirmation email.

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Touching into Our Ancestors\, Reclaiming Connection for the Asian Community
DESCRIPTION:An Online Offering for Pan Asian\, Asian American\, Pacific Islander & South Asian American Identified People \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWith Michele Ku and Amber Field \nSaturday\, August 7th 2021 2PM – 5PM PST \nTime Zone Converter – Closed Captioning Provided \nCome gather in a safe space with other Pan Asian/Asian American kin to tap into our connection to each other and our ancestors. As members of the Asian diaspora\, many of us have a painful or broken connection to our ancestral lineages\, families and traditions. Acculturation in the US and white supremacy also negatively impact our relationship to ancestral traditions. By connecting to the support that came before\, we can come more fully into what legacy we want to leave the world. Through guided meditation\, interactive sharing and voice work\, we can open to healing and tap into the deep well of the benevolent heart. We will explore ways to open to spiritual resources that connect us to the ancestors of blood\, spirit\, and land who are here to offer us support\, resource\, and guidance. \n\n\n\n\n \nAll registered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom with their EventBrite confirmation email.
