SUMMARY:ONLINE: Turning Towards Our Body During a Time of Turbulence\, Suffering and Fear
DESCRIPTION:A four class series exploring the four foundations of Mindfulness with Vimalasara Mason John.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesdays\, July 15th\, 22nd\, 29th and August 5th   7:00-8:30PM PST  \nwith Vimalasara Mason John \nThe Buddha taught the four foundations of mindfulness as a way to gain freedom from the external and internal worlds that we live in. During times of PandemicS Covid 19\, racial and social injustices it is inevitable that many of us will flee the body\, switch all feelings of and run to the comfort of our thoughts\, and many other distractions. The hardest thing many of us will ever do is coming back to the breath\, to the body\, to feelings. If we want liberation we have to find a way back to the body. During this 4 week course we will journey through the 4 tetrads of the Mindfulness of Breathing\, working with the body\, feelings\, thoughts\, the nature of all things. We will cultivate metta to access the ancient practice of the four foundations of mindfulness\, to help us see more clearly during these turbulent times of pandemics and uprisings. It will be held with kindness\, giving space to anyone who would like to have a compassionate inquiry into whatever arises during the course. This course is for anyone who is ready to rediscover the elixir of the breath and the salve of loving-kindness. \nRegistered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom with their EventBrite confirmation email.

SUMMARY:ONLINE: 4 Divine Abodes in Challenging Times: A 1-Day Silent Retreat
DESCRIPTION:with Rev. Liên Shutt \nAs we continue to endeavor in creating a just and liberatory world in these shifting times\, the teachings on the 4 Divine Abodes can help us stay centered and connected. \nQualities of Kindness\, Compassion\, Inclusive Joy\, and Equanimity can be hard to access when there’s internal or worldly turmoil. Practicing these Abodes as guided meditations helps us to know them — for ourselves and to be able to send out to others. \nJoin for the full day or come in/out as you’re able. There will be short teachings and 2 short meditations per Abode quality. However\, please try to TIME your entering/exiting to coincide with scheduled times to allow for the event manager to be able to participate also. \nNOTE: Teachings on each Divine Abode are only at the times marked. Therefore\, if possible\, please join at the beginning for the Introductions & 1st Teachings to get the full sense of how these are best practiced. ALL Meditations are visualized guided meditations. The 2nd in each Abode section will be mostly silent for your own personalization. Full schedule provided to registered participants. \nRegistered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom with their Confirmation Email from EventBrite.  \n \n

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Embracing Change: Zen & the Art of Creating a Life You Want for People of Color
DESCRIPTION:For Self Identified People of Color  \n\nSaturday\, September 12th 9:30AM – 3:30PM PST \nwith Rev. Liên Shutt \nAt certain times in our lives\, it can feel hard to know what to do. Are you at a point in your life in which you feel like it’s time for a change but not sure how to proceed? \nChange can be hard. Especially if it’s not one that we’ve chosen: a job or relationship loss\, an illness\, or other life-transition events. At such time\, thinking about all the possible options can feel confusing: “Should I do what I’ve always wanted to do or stay with what I know? Go towards my ‘heart’s desire’ or get more training?” \nTo make a gift to sustain the teachings\, please do so via Venmo: @Lien-Shutt. \nAll registered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom with their Confirmation Email from Eventbrite.  \n \n  \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Potions for the Poisons: Heart Medicine for Our Times
DESCRIPTION:A Four Class Series with Melvin Escobar \nMondays\, September 14th\, 21st and 28th 7:00 – 8:30PM PST \nIn the Buddhist teachings\, the Three Poisons (greed\, hatred\, and delusion) are the primary causes of suffering. Arguably\, these three poisons are more widespread than ever in our world. In this 3-week class series\, we will explore these unwholesome roots of our unease and the potions\, or antidotes\, to these poisons. Through stationary and gentle moving meditation\, interactive exercise\, talks\, and recommendations for home practice\, we will use contemporary psychological frameworks\, informed by an understanding of structural oppression\, to transform the poisons and live a life of true happiness. \nRegistered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom.

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Whiteness: Neither Supreme nor Fragile
DESCRIPTION:for White Practitioners \n10:00AM -12:15PM and 2:00PM-4:00PM PST \nwith Crystal Johnson and JD Doyle \nWhite supremacy culture and white fragility are all over the news and have entered mainstream conversations; but how can whiteness be both supreme and fragile? This workshop for self-identified white people explores the experience of these two powerful and seemingly contradictory delusions. We will use the Buddhist practices of mindfulness and compassion to help us let go of the conditioned behaviors of whiteness that reinforce racial injustice\, and build stamina for transformational action. \nRegistered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom with their EventBrite confirmation.

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Reclaiming Our Magic for Liberation Struggle for Black\, Indigenous and People of Color
DESCRIPTION:with Lama Rod Owens  \nIn order to experience true liberation\, we must do the work to reclaim parts of ourselves that have been lost to the violence of systematic oppression.  \nMagic is an important expression of who we are as QTIPoC and BIPOC communities. In this context\, magic means how we use our sexual and other expressions to cultivate connection and belong or how we use our laughter to consume experiences of being erased or even how we remember our ancestors to deepen our sense of resiliency.  \nOur magic is how we dance into a future free from the limitations of rigidity and control. In this talk\, we will practice reclaiming our magic because the world needs us to cast stronger spells of liberation. \nRegistered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom.  \n \n

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Love and Rage Weekend Workshop
DESCRIPTION:with Lama Rod Owens  \nAs Audre Lorde has written\, there is so much data in our anger. One of the things that we can learn is how to let our anger show us where we have been hurt. We can let this great unveiling happen through the profound practice of radical love. When we embrace this deep wish to be happy\, then we can move into the cultivation of our anger\, which can place us into a direct relationship with our rage. \nWhile anger is a reaction in the present moment to something that we have an aversion towards\, rage is an intense experience that seems old and ever present. Cultivating our anger and rage through love means that we begin the work of holding space for ourselves to experience the anger and rage and the hurt beneath them. We are learning how to witness and experience not react over and over again. When we develop this agency\, then the energy of our anger and rage can be channeled into helping others instead of hurting others. \nRegistered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom.  \n \n
