SUMMARY:ONLINE: Pandemic Precepts: Buddhist Ethics during COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:online class series with Mushim Ikeda \nASL interpretation provided by Aaron Brace and Brooke Fulton \nWednesdays\, April 29th\, May 6th\, 13th and 20th 7-8:30PM PST / PDT \nWhat does toilet paper hoarding have to do with Buddhist ethics? Based in EBMC’s mindfulness-based\, diversity-equity-inclusion and social justice-centered mission\, this four-class series offers a path to reflect on the bases of ethical discernment and action. Buddhist life\, for both laypersons and monastics\, is rooted in Five Precepts\, or ethical guidelines that are paths of deep contemplative investigation resulting in behaviors and actions aligned toward non-harm\, in the service of all life. The compassionate realization of our “interbeing\,” and the sometimes complex relationship of intent to impact are woven into this current events-based study of the Precepts.

SUMMARY:ONLINE: The 4 Noble Truths as a Restorative Process: Manifesting Agents of Change for People of Color
DESCRIPTION:with Rev. Liên Shutt – Online Retreat For People of Color  \nDoes “The 4 Noble Truths” just seems like another list to memorize? \nWhat are “truths”? How did we learn them? How do familial\, cultural\, and/or institutional systems promote\, validate\, and/or collude? Join Rev. Liên Shutt to see how my reframed “Engaged 4 Noble Truths” can reflect our multi-dimensional\, lived experiences as people of color. Meditative\, reflective\, and interactive exercises will be used throughout the day to support us to see how these seemingly passive “truths” to be more active and meaningful. We’ll expand their traditional framing to see how they also support an engaged practice\, enlivening us with agency. \nRegistered participants will receive a link to join us via Zoom with their EventBrite confirmation. \n \n
