DESCRIPTION:Join us for Alphabet Dharma in Motion \nTai Chi Chih – Joy through Movement \nwith Jenn Biehn\, EBMC Tai Chi Chih teacher \nDrop In Format\, No Pre-Registration Required. \nA form of qigong\, Tai Chi Chih is a moving meditation consisting of 20 easy-to-learn\, access-centered movements. Qigong stretches will be practiced at the beginning of each class to prepare for this moving meditation. \nA Buddha Dharma Sangha practitioner and Tai Chi Chih teacher for the past 30 years\, Jenn Biehn loves including embodied awareness and healing movement as part of sangha building. She has taught and practiced Tai Chi Chih (TCC) – Joy through Movement at City College of SF and to those healing from trauma in several community-based organizations. An EBMC volunteer for the past 10 years\, Jenn is a member of Alphabet Sangha\, Midday Sangha Coordinating Committee and Restorative Practices for Dharma Practitioners.

SUMMARY:Beyond the Binary: Mindfulness of Gender
DESCRIPTION:with Bri Barnett\, Louije Kim\, JD Doyle and René Rivera\nOpen to All *and* we extend a special invitation to those who identity as non-binary\, gender nonconforming and their allies. \n  \nGender identities and presentations profoundly impact all areas of our lives providing us both joy and difficulties.  How do we create communities that are open to all genders and learn how to navigate the complexities of gender? During this day of practice we will investigate how cultural\, historical\, and familial conditioning around gender impact us as individuals and as communities. Through meditations and interactive activities\, we will explore gender\, in order  to nurture a world that is founded in inclusivity and freedom for all. \nSpace is limited and registration is requested.  \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”). SUMMARY:Honoring the Six Directions: Buddhist Teachings on Relationship and Community
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Sean Feit Oakes \nIn a beautiful and famous discourse\, the Sigālaka Sutta\, the Buddha taught a framework for building and sustaining healthy communities. He used the model of the Six Directions\, where the practitioner thinks of themself in a web of relationships: with their parents (east)\, teachers (south)\, partner and family (west)\, friends and colleagues (north)\, employees and dependents (below)\, and religious renunciates and charities (above). Reflecting on our place in this maṇḍala of interdependence cultivates gratitude\, generosity\, healing\, ethics\, and social engagement\, strengthening the bonds of beloved community through honoring the gifts and challenges of each type of relationship. \nSpace is limited and registration is requested.  \n \n  \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”). Please donate generously\, in proportion to your ability: \n* Either online (you will be offered an opportunity during the online registration process to donate to EBMC; the teachers will not receive any part of this online donation).\n* Or at the event\, in the two baskets at EBMC\, one for the Center\, the second for the Teacher. \nThank you for your generosity. EBMC will be only be sustained through our collective generosity. \nFragrance-free: In order to protect the health of community members with environmental illness\, please do not wear fragranced products (including “natural” fragrances) or clothes laundered in fragranced products to EBMC. \nEBMC is wheelchair accessible.

SUMMARY:Mapping the Heart of Metta: A Journey Towards Tenderness and Love
DESCRIPTION:with Amana Brembry Johnson \nThe heart is a lantern that illuminates the path of our lives.  It is also the lens through which we view the world. That lens\, when rubbed against the abrasions of experience\, begins to glow dim with distortion.  The practice of Lovingkindness clears our vision to see the heart in its true nobility\, resilience\, and tenderness. During this daylong we will practice Loving Kindness meditation.  Through group and community discussion we will identify and strengthen the ways in which we practice self-love\, and ways to enhance our capacity to radiate compassion into a world on fire that is crying for love. SUMMARY:Introduction to Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation
DESCRIPTION:with Kazu Haga\, Sierra Pickett and Julia Rose Golomb \nKingian Nonviolence grew out of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and is a transformative philosophy dealing with the transformation of conflict. Many forms of political resistance only deal with “fixing issues\,” while ignoring the need to heal relationships. However many healing modalities do not address the systems of injustice that perpetuate trauma. Through interactive activities\, the workshop will dispel many common myths of “nonviolence\,” and explore the interconnection of personal healing and political resistance\, and how to build a powerful movement that honors the dignity of ALL life. This workshop is a partnership with East Point Peace Academy. \n  \n  \n
