SUMMARY:To Cherish All Life: Buddha’s 5 Precepts
DESCRIPTION:with Mushim Ikeda \nPart of EBMC’s Core Buddhist Teachings – 5-month Curriculum \nTogether we’ll safely take a deep dive into how to hold the questions and ethical complexities that arise when we grapple with trying to live in accordance with the Precepts. The Buddha’s 5 basic guidelines for peace and happiness are: Not to kill but to cherish all life; not to lie but to tell the truth; not to steal\, but to respect the things of others; not to commit sexual misconduct but to respect the wholeness of relationship; not to misuse intoxicants but to practice clarity of mind. Dharma talks\, contemplative journaling\, discussion\, interactive exercises. Meditation instruction provided for beginners. \nSpace is limited and registration is requested. \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”). Please donate generously\, in proportion to your ability: \n* Either online (you will be offered an opportunity during the online registration process to donate to EBMC; the teachers will not receive any part of this online donation).\n* Or at the event\, in the two baskets at EBMC\, one for the Center\, the second for the Teacher. \nThank you for your generosity. EBMC will be only be sustained through our collective generosity. \nFragrance-free: In order to protect the health of community members with environmental illness\, please do not wear fragranced products (including “natural” fragrances) or clothes laundered in fragranced products to EBMC. \nEBMC is wheelchair accessible.

SUMMARY:Mindful Prosperity: Abundance in Community
DESCRIPTION:with Fresh Lev White & Imee Contreras \nWhat would our practice and lives look like if we believed we were worthy of living abundantly? Can the Brahma Viharas support us in acknowledging that we are deserving and help us release fear and aversion of living prosperously? Imagine equanimity as a practice of manifestation that offers a gift of non-clinging; and include love\, compassion and the possibility of more ease. \nThrough meditation\, writing\, and visioning\, will explore our relationship with wealth\, distinguish the difference between desire and greed\, and discuss the gifts of generosity. We will participate in small and large group shares\, as well as offer accessible movement. \nSpace is limited and registration is requested. \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”). SUMMARY:Healing the Healers – Cultivating Our Resilience and Creativity for People of Color
DESCRIPTION:with Melvin Escobar  \nfor Self Identified People of Color \nYou’re invited to come be in community with other healers and caregivers\, to have a day of resting in the refuge of sangha. Buddhist teachings will be interwoven with contemporary psychological frameworks and informed by an understanding of structural oppression. As the saying goes\, “make sure to put on your oxygen mask first.” Taking care of oneself is foundational to being of true service. Through meditation practices and interactive exercises\, we will explore how to cultivate and build our resilience and creativity in order to manage compassion fatigue and help mitigate vicarious trauma and burnout. Healers need healing\, too! \nSpace is limited and registration is requested. \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”). SUMMARY:interConnected: Challenging Racism Inside and Out with Compassion\, Mindfulness and Action
DESCRIPTION:with Kitsy Schoen and Gregory Mengel \nFour class series for those who identify as white. \nAs white people in the U.S.\, we have been shaped by social\, economic and other systems in which unearned privilege accrues to white people. To the extent that we are unaware of this system of white privilege and racial conditioning\, we behave in ways that lead to suffering for ourselves\, others\,\nthe larger society. Further\, we may not realize how our conditioning stops us from joining with other white people to change the system and ourselves. \nThis class focuses on the skills\, support and understanding needed to continue to disrupt racism within ourselves in our communities. \nSpace is limited and registration is requested. \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. SUMMARY:Surviving & Thriving at the End of Capitalism: Embodying Regenerative Economies
DESCRIPTION:with Dawn Haney\, Lisa Moore and René Rivera \nAs global capitalism grinds toward a transition\, alternatives are cropping up: land trusts\, cooperatives\, wealth transfer and reparations\, everyday anti-capitalism\, and gift economics. What are these regenerative economies? How do they offer an immediate antidote to capitalism? How can mindfulness practices help us start to embody these economic ideas in our own lives and communities right now? \nIn this daylong\, you will learn to apply Buddhist concepts of interdependence and interbeing\, developing an embodied sense of how to enact and grow these economies. This workshop includes guided meditation\, interactive activities\, a panel on regenerative economies\, and discussions. \n \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events.
