SUMMARY:A Benefit and Celebration for Shahara Godfrey
DESCRIPTION:with musical performances by Melanie DeMore and Eve Decker \nCome join us to welcome Shahara Godfrey\, beloved dharma teacher back to EBMC! Listen to the wonderful music of Melanie DeMore and Eve Decker and gather with our beautiful spiritual community to support Shahara’s continued recovery. \nOur beloved teacher and friend\, Shahara Godfrey\, has courageously faced many serious health challenges these last several months including multiple surgeries\, high levels of pain and being in the Unknown. We celebrate that she is now out of the hospital and beginning to walk tenderly on her path of recovery. Shahara is deeply grateful for all the support that has been offered and for the prayers and metta sent to her during this vulnerable and challenging journey. \nFunds raised through this benefit will help support Shahara during this new phase for her long-term recovery. Shahara is unable to work for a much longer time then she had originally expected. All are welcome to come celebrate Shahara’s return to EBMC and her life. Any amount of a donation is appreciated\, small or large. \nRegister here for this event and you are welcome to make your donation now! \nhttp://july16shahara.eventbrite.com \nSinger-songwriter Melanie DeMore has a remarkable voice\, weaving the fibers of African American folk music with soulful ballads\, spirituals and her own original music. DeMore beautifully brings her audience together through her music and commentary. \nEve Decker is a Buddhist teacher\, singer/songwriter\, and song leader. She combines the power of music and of dharma practices\, including mindfulness\, lovingkindness\, and compassion. Her connections to music\, to the spirit and to her audience have made her a beloved and sought-after artist. \nFragrance-free: In order to protect the health of community members with environmental illness\, please do not wear fragranced products (including “natural” fragrances) or clothes laundered in fragranced products to EBMC. \nEBMC is wheelchair accessible.

SUMMARY:Free Your Heart: Transformational Workshop for Exploring Love
DESCRIPTION:with Spring Washam \nThe potential exists in every human being to love without defenses or fear\, so that true intimacy – direct\, unobstructed\, heart-to-heart connection with ourselves and others – becomes a way of life. We can learn to share\, one heart to another\, through the power of unconditional love. We can become more whole in ourselves so that we can be energized and empowered on our paths. Barriers to authentic connection occur due to unconscious fears that are rooted in the past. This workshop will provide safe\, nurturing space to explore those fears and barriers. The workshop will include powerful interactive group processes\, periods of meditation\, sacred music\, movement\, and group discussion. \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. Click here or the link below to register. \nhttp://eastbaymeditation.org/ebmcreg/?event=july16heart \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events. SUMMARY:Nourishing Our Relationship to Practice
DESCRIPTION:with Larry Yang and Max Airborne \nHow are we relating to our practice? Do we feel the beauty and kindness of practice? Do we relate to it with impatience\, self-criticism\, boredom or obligation? Why do we practice? Does our practice resemble our life\, or does it feel separate from it? \nIn this daylong for people who have some experience with Dharma practice\, we’ll look deeply at wise relationship to practice. Like any relationship\, the relationship we have with our practice needs care and feeding. Let’s explore how to bring kindness\, juiciness and aliveness to this important relationship\, to create the best possible conditions for deepening our freedom. \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. SUMMARY:Mindfulness and Aging: Claiming our Eldership & Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 11\, 2016\n1:30 pm – 5:00 pm \nHalf-day retreat for self-identified women and gender-fluid people \nWith Noliwe Alexander and Arinna Weisman \nHow do we open to aging; the loss of physical resilience\, perhaps increasing illness\, the decline of our mental faculties and memory? The Buddha offers us a path of mindfulness and loving kindness that challenges the habitual ways we have ‘owned’ or ‘identified’ with our bodies and minds\, and that allows us to join the natural processes of nature and our planet earth. Join us as we claim our eldership and wisdom\, which have come with our years lived\, and the blessings these bring.

SUMMARY:Interconnected: Challenging Racism and White Privilege with Mindfulness and Compassion
DESCRIPTION:A class series for white people \n4 Monday evenings & 1 weekend daylong\nMondays\, September 12\, 19\, 26 & October 3: 6:30 – 9:00 pm\nSunday\, October 2: 11:00 am – 4:00 pm\n*We ask participants to commit to and attend all sessions. \nwith Kitsy Schoen and Gregory Mengel \nMindfulness practices are incomplete if they don’t include the investigation of social injustices and the ways we inadvertently perpetuate the system in our unexamined behaviors and beliefs.  Social justice and anti-racism efforts can cause harm if they don’t include the wisdom and understanding that comes from mindfulness and compassion practices \nIn this class series we will support each other in addressing our own racism and white privilege using both multicultural theories and tools along with Buddhist teachings and practices. \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. Click here or the link below to register. \nhttp://sept16interconnected.eventbrite.com \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events.  However\, EBMC is not independently funded. SUMMARY:Survival\, Resistance and Resiliency: Practice for Men of Color
DESCRIPTION:with EBMC’s Men of Color Deep Refuge Group \nWe warmly invite all self-identified men of color and people of color who are on the spectrum of masculine identities including trans\, non-binary and gender nonconforming.* \nTogether\, we will explore our diverse experiences and definitions of survival\, resistance\, and resiliency\, and how we can bring balance to our individual and collective experience as “men of color”* in our global community. Through meditation\, movement\, and facilitated discussion\, we will discover the various components of our masculine energy and uncover socially conditioned patterns\, in order to refine and reconnect to our authentic human nature.  Here are some questions that reflect our growing and learning edge as a group.  How has masculine conditioning shaped the kind of help we can request and receive from our community?  What parts of masculine conditioning limit our access to the full spectrum of emotional and spiritual expression? What helps to create resilience for our communities? What is our core identification as a group? What does it mean to be “men” within the framework of inclusivity and the gender spectrum? Navigating the world\, we recognize we cannot do this work alone; therefore\, we invite you to join us in sacred community as we collectively connect and cultivate a deeper understanding of what it means to be mindful men of color*. \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. Click here or the link below to register. \nhttps://sept16moc.eventbrite.com \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events.  However\, EBMC is not independently funded.
