SUMMARY:Expanding Our Hearts: The Three Directions of Forgiveness
DESCRIPTION:Led by Konda Mason & Lama Tsomo \nThis is the first installment of a three-part series on the three directions of forgiveness; forgiving self\, forgiving others and asking for forgiveness.  We will begin with focusing on forgiving ourselves\, which forms the foundation for the other directions of forgiveness.   \nWe have all done things to others that we deeply regret\, whether consciously or unconsciously through speech\, word or deed.  The consequences of our actions often times causes us as much\, if not more\, suffering than the person(s) we harmed. We can get stuck in beating ourselves up and believe what we have done is unforgivable – and just can’t find a way to free ourselves from the suffering that is on repeat  in our minds.   In fact\, the guilt that we feel only creates more suffering. Through story\, conversation\, meditation\, practice techniques and journaling\, we will learn to work through this perilous field of self-forgiveness. Come prepared to transform your inner story and free yourself once and for all. \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. Click here  to register. \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events.  However\, EBMC is not independently funded. The Center and the teachers will be sustained only by your voluntary donations (the practice of generous giving\, or “dana”). Please donate generously\, in proportion to your ability: \n* Either online (you will be offered an opportunity during the online registration process to donate to EBMC; the teachers will not receive any part of this online donation).\n* Or at the event\, in the two baskets at EBMC\, one for the Center\, the second for the Teacher. \nThank you for your generosity.  EBMC will be only be sustained through our collective generosity. \nFragrance-free: In order to protect the health of community members with environmental illness\, please do not wear fragranced products (including “natural” fragrances) or clothes laundered in fragranced products to EBMC. \n  EBMC is wheelchair accessible. \n

SUMMARY:Awake in the World: The Path of Nibbana

The teachings of Nibbana are some of the Buddha’s most profound teachings.  Descriptions of awakening range from to groundlessness to radiant awareness\, from the union of compassion and emptiness to absolute beauty. During this day of practice\, we examine different ways to understand this path and how it provides guidance to our lives.   \nRegistration: Registration is required and space is limited. Click HERE to register. \nCost: There is no registration fee for attending this event\, nor most EBMC events.  However\, EBMC is not independently funded. SUMMARY:Cutting through Spiritual Materialism - A Half Day Book Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Core Teacher Diving Deeper Series \nLed by Mushim Ikeda \nREQUIRED: You need to have read the book and come prepared to discuss it. \nA half-day retreat on the modern spiritual classic\, Cutting through Spiritual Materialism. In this book\, “the Tibetan meditation master Chögyam Trungpa highlights the commonest pitfall to which every aspirant on the spiritual path falls prey: what he calls spiritual materialism. The universal tendency\, he shows\, is to see spirituality as a process of self-improvement—the impulse to develop and refine the ego when the ego is\, by nature\, essentially empty. ‘The problem is that ego can convert anything to its own use\,’ he said\, ‘even spirituality.’ [amazon.com description]” Instead\, Chögyam Trungpa says\, we need to understand that “true and joyous liberation…inevitably involves letting go of the self rather than working to improve it.” Dharma talks\, contemplative journaling\, discussion\, interactive exercises. Meditation instruction provided for beginners. For those who cannot afford to purchase their own copy of the book\, EBMC will have a limited number of copies to loan. Please inquire immediately upon registering for this class if you are requesting a loaner copy.
